College student Madison Popolizio and her boyfriend were lost near the top of Algonquin Peak, the second highest mountain in New York, for 48 hours in blizzard conditions. Popolizio recounted her struggle in an interview with Michelle Miller on “CBS This Morning.”

The couple took a fall down the side of the mountain after a seemingly normal Sunday afternoon hike turned dangerous when a heavy fog rolled in, and Popolizio said she is alive today because of her boyfriend, Blake Alois.

“I told him I can’t really feel my legs anymore, I can’t feel my feet, and his first instinct… I’m sorry,” she said as she had to stop to hold in her tears, “was to take his bag that was full of our supplies and our food and to dump it out and to pull it around my legs so I could stay warm.”
